Sci-Fri Color Changing Flowers

On Friday, the Kindergarten class had another colorful, spring Sci-Fri experiment.  We used white carnations, food coloring and clear plastic cups.  Then, we made predictions to see what was going to happen if we put food coloring in the water and let the flowers sit in the colored water over the weekend.  When we came into school this morning, we had quite a surprise, the white carnations weren't as white anymore! Today, we finished our conclusions where we saw that adding food color to the white turned the flowers the color of the water.  We also put in a tricky part to our experiment and one of the carnations had a broken stem, so we still put the food coloring in the water to see what was going to happen, and the broken stem did not change the results, the students were amazed!!

Here are some pictures from our experiment on Friday:

Here are the results from our experiment after the weekend on Monday:

DrumShtick

"DrumShtick," a trio of percussionists from the Vermont Symphony Orchestra performed live at
CKS on Tuesday, April 2! :)

The Kindergarten students had the opportunity to learn about the various types of percussion instruments, experience the similarities and differences in timbres and techniques that make each percussion instrument unique, how percussion sounds can highlight instrumental and vocal music, as well as be utilized to create engaging music on their own.
The VSO performers played several pieces, and provided a Q & A at the end.
Here are some pictures from the performance, hope you enjoy! :)
