Letters to our pen-pals!

I have a friend at Shelburne Community School who teaches Kindergarten and our classes are going to be pen-pals. We learned how to write a letter in Writer's Workshop and we just finished writing our first letter to our new pen-pals. We are excited to send them in the mail! We also took pictures of ourselves so that our pen-pals know what we look like. We are excited to write back and forth to our pen-pals and maybe even meet them some time this year!! Here are just a few of our letters.

Community Helpers!

We had so much fun learning about citizenship through our Social Studies stations. We made posters about helping our community through planting flowers or trees, recycling, composting, or picking up trash. Then we made badges that stated that we were citizens and they wrote out "Citizen (their name)". Then they chose a Community Worker hat to decorate and wear to show that our community wouldn't work without community workers.

Pumpkin Observations

We learned all about pumpkins by guessing their weight then weighing them, guessing their circumference with a string then measuring them, and guessing then counting the seeds. Then we drew pictures of pumpkins and read some books about them as well. We probably had some funny dreams about pumpkins that night! :)

Science Centers

We had so much fun learning about the Five Senses. Each week, we went to centers that helped us to learn more about the senses. We were able to do hands-on activities to help us discover our senses and learn about why they are so important.

We had to find mystery items hidden in rice-filled cups, smell containers and match the smell to the picture of what it smelled like, listen to a video and do a computer activity for sound, reach into bags and feel an item to guess what the item is and taste foods to determine if they are sweet, salty or sour. We had so much fun!
