Daily 5

When the students come inside from recess, and start our Daily 5. This program focuses on fostering independence during literacy time through modeling the five components of the program. The can read to themselves, read with a friend, listen to a story on CD, work on their writing or do word work. We are loving the Daily 5 and so are the kids! Ask your child to tell you what their favorite choice is! Visit the website for more information http://www.the2sisters.com. Here are some pictures of the students doing the Daily 5:

Snowmen At Night

We read the story Snowmen at Night and made masks to act it out. In the story, the snowmen come alive and do things like skate, sled or have snowball fights when it is nighttime and no one can see them. The students pretended they were doing all of those things like the snowmen in the story. They had a blast!

Letter Party!

Today we celebrated being finished with our Fundations letter study. We have learned all the letters and now we are ready to move on to to sounding more words out and writer's and reader's workshop. So to celebrate, we had a letter scavenger hunt where we had to find hidden coloring pages in the room then color them. We also got to pick a balloon out of a bag, identify the letter and something that starts with that letter, then at the end we all got to pop our balloons! Some of us were able to sit on them, or stomp on them to pop them but some of us had to use a pencil :)To finish our party we got to watch the video we made of our letters made out of objects starting with the letter. For example, one student who had the letter A made it out of airplanes. See our previous post for the actual video.
