Oh what fun it is to ADD!

We are learning to add in Math. We started by talking about how adding is taking two groups and combining them to see how many there are in all. Now we are talking about the plus and equal signs and how we use them in adding. To help them, we used Popsicle sticks and made a plus and equal signs. Then we did some addition problems with our frogs to help us understand what adding means.

Brazil Carnaval Masks

We learned about Brazil during our Traveling Unit and one thing we learned was that there is a big annual festival called Carnaval. We made masks with lots of colors and feathers like we saw in a clip about Carnaval.

Mexican Hat Dance with maracas

They had a blast watching a real Mexican Hat dance online and then partner dancing it themselves with the maracas they made in class! It was fun hearing the wonderful Mexican music and dancing while pretending we were in Mexico (if only the weather would have been like in Mexico!)

Chicks in Eggs - tens and ones game

We had so much fun playing this game while practicing tens and ones placement. They are bringing this game home to play!
All you need are a pair of dice!

Learning about Transportation!

We are starting our Traveling Unit by talking about different ways to travel. We talked about traveling by boat, plane or jet, car or truck, bus, bike, motorcycle, etc. We did stations to learn more about these different ways to travel.


We made our own roads for car travel.
They loved cutting up their "roads" and connecting them to bridges, etc.
They looked through magazines for pictures of different ways to travel. Then they cut and glued those pictures for a transportation collage.
They made passports for our "travel" and then read books about transportation.
They made boats out of aluminum foil and then put them in our water bin to see if they float.

They had lots of fun and we only got to go through half of the stations! Next week, they will finish the centers they didn't get to go to.

We had a great St. Patrick's Day celebration! I will post pictures from mass very soon :)

Our leprechaun traps! We worked hard trying to trap a leprechaun so we could have his gold....but alas we did not get one! Larry the Leprechaun did come by and was very messy and mischievous and tipped over chairs and misplaced things. But he did leave Lucky Charms for us in the traps and some gold coins. So he wasn't such a naughty leprechaun after all!!




We made our own leprechauns and wrote about what makes us feel lucky.

We love to measure!

In Math, we are learning about measurement. We learned that we can measure with lots of different tools, like cubes that connect together that we call Unifix Cubes. We went around our classroom to measure different items and then drew them into boxes on a piece of paper with how many cubes long they were. We had lots of fun with this!
