What a fun way to celebrate learning our colors! We had some very colorful friends :) We did a fun activity with Fruit Loops! We glued the colorful and yummy snack to the first letter of our name and then got to eat some!

Daily 5
We are in full swing with Daily 5, our Literacy rotations that allow kids to be in small groups while teachers can meet with individual students at their level. The 5 stations are 1) Read to Self, 2) Read to Others, 3) Work on Writing, 4) Word Work, and 5) Listen to Reading. What's great about the system is that is evolves with the students as they evolve academically. It allows them to be a little more independent while we can meet with small groups for a more focused lesson or reading group. Here are some great pictures of them during our Daily 5 time! They love it!

Welcome to Kindergarten! 2013-2014
We are so excited for our new school year! I will update this blog weekly as much as possible so keep checking for any new posts. I will take lots of pictures of the students at work so that you can get a little glimpse into our classroom. Enjoy!
Here are some pictures of us doing the 5 Little Bugs song. We each got to be a fly or a frog and sang the song together. The kids loved it!
Here we are having fun making our names with various letters. We are using Scrabble tiles, stringing our names with letter beads, connecting Unifix cubes with letters on them, and using magnetic letters.

Subtraction Fun!
We played a great subtraction game that you could try at home! Two players have 10 frogs or other objects lined up. One partner closes his/her eyes while the other takes a cup and hides some of the objects under the cup. The other player opens their eyes and figures out how many are hiding and then figures out what subtraction problem they would use to explain how many objects were hiding. They loved it!

Acrostic Poems
We learned about acrostic poems and as table groups, we wrote our own Spring acrostic poem. They had so much fun brainstorming words to describe Spring and even looked in the classroom dictionary for help!
